Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has accused the immediate past President, Muhammadu Buhari and the former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, of being responsible for the present hardship and hunger Nigerians are grappling with, today.Akpabio, who was speaking at a thanksgiving service on Sunday in Koroma, Tai Local Government Area in Rivers State, said what the nation is going through is a period of economic harm caused by the duo, whose strategies resulted in the nation being in debt and its citizens experiencing severe poverty. He emphasised the complexity of the debt and economic challenges being faced in the country, citing former President Obama’s words about understanding Washington only when one is in Washington. Expounding the dire state of the economy upon their arrival, the President of the Senate highlighted the severity of issues such as poverty, banditry, kidnapping, and robbery and other Vices plaguing the country, saying bad policy direction exacerbated these issues. Akpabio also mentioned the confusion surrounding potential charges against Mr. Emefiele, indicating a lack of clarity on the specific allegations. The former Akwa Ibom governor expressed uncertainty regarding the charges to be brought against the individual, whether it be for adding foam to the bill, illegal possession of a firearm, or printing notes without income. He however urged Nigerians to remain patient amidst rising inflation and living costs, assuring the public that the relevant agencies would thoroughly investigate the matter. The Senate President therefore, solicited for patience from Nigerians with Tinubu-led government, acknowledging that the longstanding issues in Nigeria cannot be resolved in a short period of time.
