Ex militants from Akwa Ibom State earlier granted Amnesty by the federal government under the aegis of Bakassi Freedom Movement have called on the federal government and Akwa Ibom State government to keep to their bargain and fulfil same to them. The group who submitted their weapons at the Eastern to federal government were Inducted and camped in Obubra ,Cross River State as the second batch in the federal government amnesty program is alleging that the Head of the Amnesty program has virtually abandoned them since 2013.According to the leader who prefers to be addressed as General they have not been paid despite several promises. ‘We haven’t been paid our allowances since 2013 and this causing serious suffering among the membership of the group . It is really sad and annoying that for thirteen (13) good years we have not receive anything from the Amnesty team.The general decry a situation where Akwa Ibom ex-militants are treated differently. ‘”Our rights and benefits are withheld while the ones accrued to other ex militant groups are promptly settled, why this discrimination? We will take it no more. In few weeks we will lock down all economic activities in the region and face the consequences, he summarized Also speaking the secretary of the group call on the government of Governor Umo Eno to intervene before things get out of hands. In his words, Gov Umo Eno whom we have shown immense support for both politically and security wise should act fast and address our plights because we have been patient enough.
