Ethical and Attitudinal Reorientation Commission (EARCOM), has sued for peace among the people of Eket, Esit Eket, and Ibeno Local Government Areas.EARCOM spoke through a Commissioner on the Board, Hon. Goodnews Ediene and an Ambassador of the Commission, Mr Etopobong Nathaniel, both of whom were discussants on the radio advocacy programme of the Commission, EARCOM Hour, aired on Heritage 104.9fm, Eket on Monday. While commending Governor Umo Eno for personally visiting the spot and announcing Government’s take over of the disputed Stubbs Creek Forest, EARCOM charged the Chairmen of the various Local Government Councils, Traditional institutions, Community and religious leaders to complement the effort of the governor and work to promote peaceful development in the area.Hon. Ediene, explained that, the ARISE Agenda plans of Governor Umo Eno, especially as it has to do with rural development and agricultural revolution will be hampered in the area as Government is also putting infrastructure in place to make life meaningful to the people.He urged the people of the three Local Government’s to continue to adhere to the recommendations of Governor Umo Eno and await judicial pronouncements on all matters that are pending in Court of to ensure lasting peace in the area.On his part, Amb. Nathaniel, who is of the West African Institute for Waste Management and Environmental Studies lauded the current administrations commitment to peace and security, stressing that nothing should be spared to ensure that the people live in peace and harmony including sanctioning leaders of communitiesthst breach the peace and punishing identified miscreants. EARCOM, also advised youths not to allow themselves to be manipulated by politicians or vested interests to forment trouble, arguing that while they maim, kill themselves and destroy property, those who are manipulating them have their children schooling abroad or working in blue chip companies. Stressing that nothing can be achieved through unbridled violence of the sort witnessed in the area, EARCOM appreciated all the community leaders that have contributed in no small measures to return peace to the warring areas in the three Local Government’s. Hon. Ediene, said EARCOM is clamouring for the realization of the agricultural ambitions of Governor Umo Eno to ensure food security, adding that , the three Local Government’s, like many others, are critical to the drive for agricultural revolution.While Amb. Nathaniel commended Governor Eno’s wisdom in declaring that the Stubbs Creek Forest will be sustained for its carbon credits benefit to the environment, he also proposed that with the restoration of peace, government should put in place institutions for ventilation of grievances by the people without going to war which he argued is criminal and inhuman.EARCOM, therefore, sued for peace among the brothers who have intermarried over time with relatives on every side and assured them of development given Governor Umo Eno’s resolve to develop every part of the State.
