The chairman of Etinan Local Government Area, Hon. Uko Umoh, has begun job hunting in federal establishments in Abuja for indigenes of Etinan who are unemployed. The chairman, in his quest for human capacity development and employment, has met with the Special Assistant to Minister of Interior on Communication and Strategy, Engr Uwakmfon Michael, where they deliberated on how indigenes of the area can be employed in the federal parastatals domiciled in the ministry. Uko Umoh, who was delighted to meet his kinsman, reeled out several projects he has executed within his short stay in office, and expressed concern on the number of unemployed youths in the area. “As chairman, I am really disturbed about unemployment rate among our youths. I kindly appeal to you to use your good office to ensure our people are gainfully employed. “I do not have anybody in mind; all I know is that any Etinan person who merits an opportunity should be given a chance.”My emergence as the local government chairman came by the grace of God, and I must use this opportunity to better the lives of my people.” Uko said. Uko Umoh promised to set up a registration points where all graduates from the local government who are in search of jobs can drop their qualifications and area of specialisations. By so doing, the chairman said, the local government will have a comprehensive data of unemployed youths in the area so that when opportunities in the state and federal government come up, he could easily forward the names to his contacts for employment. In his words, Engr Michael, an indigene of Etinan, said he was elated to meet his chairman and commended the efforts of Hon. Uko Umoh in mitigating poverty through proactive means. Engr Michael assured the chairman of working with him to ensure that qualified indigenes of the local government area are included in any job opportunity available within the ministry. It can be recalled that few weeks ago, when committee set up by the chairman to assess abandoned and dilapidated government structures in the local government area submitted its report, the chairman had promised to explore every opportunity to attract attention of people both in Nigeria and diaspora to assist in solving some of those problems. He had also promised to engage in job search for indigenes of Etinan.
